What sort of plays do you present?

We present new writing, often with a distinctly East Anglian flavour. The productions are exciting, dynamically staged and performed by versatile actors who often double and play musical instruments, adding to the magic of the live experience.

How do you turn a non-theatre into a theatre?

We pride ourselves in being able to perform in almost any space, as long as there's enough ceiling height and a potential audience! In our most ambitious project to date, The Wuffings, we converted Europe's largest potting shed (Notcutts' Despatch Centre at Pettistree near Woodbridge) into a 400-seat auditorium. This spectacular production was witnessed by almost 8,000 people over three weeks. The 90-foot long stage was covered in 21 tons of sand on which a cast of 16 actors and musicians explored the human drama behind the story of the Sutton Hoo burial ship. We are constantly on the lookout to undertake similar site-specific ventures in the future.

I've got a few hours to spare from time to time. Do you offer any voluntary work?

Yes. We have a dedicated team of volunteers, known as the Eastern Angels, from all parts of the region, who are greatly valued. Angels are needed for front-of-house help (eg: ticket tearing, serving coffee, ushering) and administrative assistance (usually envelope stuffing!). As well as meeting like-minded people, as a volunteer you may also benefit from free tickets, social events, and special fundraising evenings. To enquire further, contact JON TAVENER on 01473 218202 or via email, here.
