Production notes for "Marsh Fever"
Created out of nothing! The stage was built from wood provided by Connells of Woodbridge and knocked together to last a couple of years. It ended up lasting for well over 10 years!
Beversham Brigg, where the play is based, is a village on the Alde Estuary NW of Blaxhall. Mentioned in the Domesday Book, and marked on a map of Suffolk dated 1807. It had disappeared from the next edition of the map dated 1810. The village had 'died'.....
Black Shuck is a phantom dog which haunts the East Anglian coast from Felixstowe to Hunstanton. Shuck also appears in the legends of the Essex/Suffolk Marshlands. Also known as Skeff or Skeffy. The name probably derives from the Anglo Saxon 'scucci' - a Demon.
Shuck's footprint is 'burned' into the door of Blythburgh Church. He is reputed to have attacked the congregation at Sunday worship.
