About "Spring & Port Wine"

One Family
One Herring
One Indigestible Problem!

From the writer of ‘Alfie' Gallery Players present the humorous tale of one working class family

For years Rafe Crompton has dominated his family, demanding that they live according to his strict rules. Everything comes to a head one explosive weekend when daughter Hilda, after drinking a drop too much port wine, refuses to eat the herring she is given for tea. Rebellion is in the air - can the family hold together or will it break apart?

Bill Naughton's humorous and affecting story of a working class Bolton family has been hugely popular ever since it was first staged in 1965. Naughton drew on the memories of his Lancashire childhood to write it, "I remember the smells in the homes, the jobs, and everything about the people," he said, creating characters that are perceptively true and situations that still resonate today.

Renowned local theatre group Gallery Players are thrilled to revive this classic play and do hope you join them for this ‘fishy' tale!
